Project Kilimanjaro - The Story of Liam O’Keeffe

Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa, seeing 50,000 summits per year. Liam O’Keeffe, Husband, Father and inspiration for many, plans to tackle this massive challenge, in a way which only few have managed.

In 2015, O’Keeffe was involved in an injury on the rugby pitch which has left him paralysed from the chest down.

10 years on from this life altering injury, for 8 days, O’Keeffe and his team will battle through tricky terrain, altitude and freezing weather conditions. With the aid of a specially adapted wheelchair, his arms will power him up the the worlds tallest freestanding mountain.

Less than 24 hours after O’Keeffe’s injury, the IPF (The RFU Injured Players Foundation) was by his hospital bed and has been with him through every stage of his recovery. It is this that has driven him to complete this challenge, while raising money for their charity.

Project Kilimanjaro will be a “fly on the wall” style documentary which will act as an introduction to O’Keeffe and the challenge he is going to face in October 2025.

I will be Producing, Directing and Filming Liam’s content going forward. As well as Co-editing Content for him throughout this challenge with an editor, and good friend Dan Sherlock @ www.dansherlock.co.uk.

Project Kilimanjaro - A story of Liam O’Keeffe

This is the first video we created introducing Liam and his story. So far, the project has found me interview him, his mum, his dad and his wife in Bristol, as well as the first outing on his mountain trike, taking him to the summit of Pen Y Fan in Wales.

This weekend filming with Liam is one which reminded me why I got into film making in the first place. A true honour and such an incredible story to be a part of.

This video was produced and shot by myself and edited by Dan Sherlock.

Pen Y Fan in a Wheelchair

During the first weekend I spent with Liam, It was his first outing in the custom made wheelchair he will be taking out to Kilimanjaro. He decided the first outing in the chair would be to summit Pen Y Fan in Wales.

Produced and edited by myself.
